What’s your favorite in home workout equipment?

InMotion Compact EllipticalSo I know its been a while but like I always say…life just gets in the way! So….recently I have been exploring other pieces of workout equipment that is suitable for the home that doesn’t take up much space. Of course weeks of research went into looking for that perfect piece of equipment that was both compact, easy to put together and didn’t cost me a small fortune. I came across one of those pesky ads in my Facebook feed for a compact elliptical made by InMotion. My first thought was….how can an elliptical be compact? Then I clicked on it and watched the video and instantly I HAD TO HAVE ONE!! Now for those of you who don’t know me….I’m cheap! I refuse to pay full price if I don’t have to and that is how Amazon and eBay have become my best friends. I do feel kind of bad for the delivery drivers who delivery my packages every other day! Any who….I found the same item on Amazon and it was the same price as their website but I did find the older model for under $100! SCORE! The only major difference was the new version had resistance bands attached for an upper body workout which I figured…I could use some weights or my own resistance band. Now like most wives (insert laughter here) I discussed it with hubby before I made the purchase. My birthday was just a few days away…Happy Birthday to me!

3 DAYS LATER…..

My package arrived!!! I couldn’t wait and made hubby put it together which was SUPER simple…..I could have done it! After the 15 minutes it took for him to put it together I was ready to use my compact elliptical. Since the machine is compact the stride is much smaller than your average elliptical but for me and my short legs its perfect! After 15 minutes I started to feel my legs BURNING!!!! It did however take about 30 minutes before I actually started to break a sweat but 2 miles later I was sweating and my legs started to feel like stretched out rubber bands. Now not only can you use this piece of equipment by standing on it like a normal elliptical but you can also use it like a bike while sitting at your desk! What is better than sitting there pedaling your heart out while finishing those spreadsheets or power point?

I would recommend this to anyone who has bad knees and wants to get a little cardio in because it is versatile and you can use it standing or sitting. Is it the best cardio workout…..probably not but it will get your blood pumping and will add some variety to your everyday exercise routine. I love mine because I can use it and watch TV with hubby without him complaining that I’m hogging the TV with my workout DVD’s again. So whats your favorite piece of home workout equipment?

Where have I been?

Ugh….so here we are months have gone by and I haven’t posted an update. Well life has gotten in the way yet again…what’s new. In my last post the doctor had finally released me to workout again from where I sprained my back….well two weeks into getting back into my routine I had a pretty nasty fall down an entire flight of stairs. Not only was my pride broken but so was my tailbone and several nasty bruises. Yep…..I broke my ass…..literally! So I had to face 8 weeks of sitting on donuts and popping pain killers to help me get thru the day. It just hasn’t been the greatest few months for me physically. To top it off at the beginning of the year my husband was facing the possibility of being without a job because not only was his company selling his division but the building he worked in was also selling the building and their business. Luckily the company who purchased the business and building kept his contract intact. That ordeal took about 4 months to workout….so making a baby was put on hold until we knew exactly what was going on.

So now that hubby has a job and I’m finally feeling great…..it’s time to jump in with both feet and hit the ground running superhero style. I’m sorry it took me so long to catch everyone up and I promise to get better at this stuff.

I’m back!!!!

I'm BACKI’m back!!!! Did you miss me?? LOL! My doctor FINALLY released me to start working out again!!! Thank the good lord above for giving me patients to get through the last few weeks! Since my injury I have tried extremely hard to keep things as healthy as I could but I’m going to be honest with you…..I found myself slipping into my old habits. I chose the convenient foods instead of the healthy foods. Over the past 6 weeks, I’ve gained a few pounds which I’m not proud of but today is a new day. The past is the past…..the damage is done. I have a choice to make, I can either choose to continue down the same path or I can choose to get back on that horse. So I’m saddling up and getting back on that horse!

When I started this journey last year, I knew that it was going to be hard….but nothing prepared me for exactly how hard it was really going to be both physical and emotional. Dealing with PCOS is never easy…..sometimes you feel like your trapped inside your own body, which is how I feel about 95% of the time. fatigue is another major factor for me….no matter what I do, I’m always tired. I’ve been taking vitamins to help and still tired ALL THE TIME!! I’m hoping that once I start working out more that my energy levels will increase. But to keep myself motivated I’ve joined a few free 5 day clean eating challenges which I am super excited about! I am only allowed to workout 3 days a week for the next 3 weeks and then I can go back to my 5 days a week as long as I feel good. I am super excited to get back at this and onto a healthier me.

Rest for 4 to 6 weeks??

So I apologize for the lack of posting…I really need to get better at this! So last week I was down for the count with back pain…it went away with rest but it came back yesterday so I decided it was time to see a doctor. My regular primary care didn’t have any openings so I opted for an urgent care facility near my office. Luckily I was able to get in right after work. Once I saw the doctor and got my marching orders I wasn’t that happy. I have a severely strained lower back and I now have to take it easy and rest for 4 to 6 weeks! 4 TO 6 WEEKS!!!!!????? How am I going to reach my goals of I’m not allowed to work out?  By eating clean!! My plan for the next 6 weeks is to really focus on my diet…I haven’t been really that consistent with my diet lately but making healthy choices is super important. Healthy weight loss is 80% diet. I am challenging all my readers to send me your favorite healthy meal recipe! Here’s to a new adventure!!

New Beginnings…

Happy-New-Year-Greetings-Best2015 has come and gone and my 2015 resolutions were far from being met. Every year we all say “New Year…..New me” but half of us really follow through. Well I have finally come to terms with the fact that if I really want to shop in those cute clothing stores that all my friends shop in and finally be able to get pregnant….I HAVE TO DO MORE! Don’t get me wrong….losing 35 lbs this past year was amazing but I had fallen off the wagon more than what I probably should have. The holidays were not so good me this year either…we all know that I have a passion for baking and well…..a passion for eating. Over indulging comes with the territory during the holidays but my self-control flew right out the window. So when I say….NEW YEAR NEW ME….I truely mean it this time. I vow to lose 50 lbs by July and learn basic spanish! So who’s with me?? Bring it on 2016! Happy New Year everyone!

A little off topic…

Hey everyone….its been a few weeks since my last post. The holidays are here and I’ve been trying to spend some time doing what I love…BAKING!!! Anyways…this post is a little out of the ordinary for me as it really has nothing to do with my journey but more of my inspiration.

I started to get into watching UFC in late 2013 when my husband held a UFC party with his friends at our home. I love throwing parties because I love taking care of people and feeding them amazing food! From that fight I fell in love with the sport….but what really made me a die-hard fan was when I watched Rhonda Rousey fight Miesha Tate on December 23, 2013 (won by arm bar). I have followed her ever since. I love everything that she stands for and everything she has done for women. I actually may lose some followers because of this post but honestly, I don’t care. Rousey has done a lot in her career that benefits women everywhere. She was the first US Women to earn an Olympic medial in Judo at the Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008. She is the reason why women are now fighting in the UFC but what I love most about her is she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She isn’t afraid to tell you like it is. She has her opinion and if you don’t like it then whatever. I read the interview that she did with ESPN after she her fight against Holm and it moved me. (Here is the link to the article, I encourage you all to read it… In an exclusive interview, ronda rouse and espn). The one thing that she said it resonated with me, she said “Most people get scared away from having an opinion. It’s not so much my opinion everybody relates to, it’s that I don’t care about being punished for it.” Growing up I use to let my opinions known, I wasn’t afraid of speaking my mind and telling you I didn’t agree with something. Over the years, I lost my voice and grew scared of giving my opinion. After reading this article, I made a promise to myself….I was going to voice my opinion more. Tell people how I truly feel and so far….there hasn’t been any significant repercussions in fact, I’ve actually gained more respect for myself and from my peers.

Ronda Rousey

I can’t exactly say I know how she is feeling by losing to Holm but reading this interview really made me realize that some of us have bad days and some of us have really shitty days. We all have the right to pick our selves up off that mat at the time we feel is right….we all deserve to grieve and recover in our own way. I know that she will be back and she will be back better than ever. She has the biggest heart and so much love and soul for what she does and what she represents. She inspires me to avoid being a “do nothing bitch” and it’s because of her and her determination that I have been able to turn over a new leaf for myself and really focus on my life and my journey.

Ronda if by any miraculous cosmic event happened and you are reading this, just know that we all love you and we support you…we wish you all of the best in the world. You are a beautiful person with an even more beautiful soul. I love what Roger Matthews wrote on his instagram, “Even the greatest can be beaten because we are all human.” We are all human and July is just 6 months and a few weeks away!

Detox Tea..good or bad?

I’m seeing celebrity advertisements all over the place for different detox teas….so what’s all the hype about? Obviously it intrigued me enough to do some research and I found that Detox herbal teas have been in use for centuries…..and here I thought it was the “new thing to try”. During my research, I read that when you are undergoing a detoxification program, your body is ridding itself of the built up toxins we’ve accumulated through diet or your environment (perfect after indulging in that yummy Thanksgiving dinner). These toxins are most commonly found in the liver and kidneys and after just passing my very first kidney stone (p.s. if child-birth is anything like that pain, I will most definitely be getting an epidural!), I thought to myself, GET THOSE TOXINS OUT!!! I never want to experience that pain ever again!  After doing a quick Amazon search on detox teas, I was definitely overwhelmed by all the options. I spent about 3 days going back and forth reading all of the reviews on each tea before I finally decided on Triple Leaf’s Detox Tea.

Detox Tea (1)

This tea is a cleansing and revitalizing tea made with potent Chinese purification herbs but the best thing it’s Caffeine-Free. When I got the box from Amazon, I read the following message on the top of the box:

“For thousands of years, the Chinese have been using herbs to clear away toxins. Today, we are exposed to increasing levels of harmful environmental pollutants and toxins in smoke, air, water and food. many synergistic and potent Chinese purification herbs have been used to create our Detox Tea. Traditionally, these herbs were used to support the healthy function of the liver, kidneys, lungs and blood, and to cleanse the body of toxins. They were considered to help promote clear, healthy skin, increase the flow of energy (chi) to the body and mind, and promote calmer, more positive and peaceful emotions.”

At first I was very skeptical….how could a tea do all of that? I will admit it took me a few days to build up enough courage to even try it but I am so glad that I did! I was feeling really tired all of the time even though I was getting between 6 and 8 hours of sleep each night. I drank this tea every morning for about a week and I can honestly say that I felt rejuvenated and well rested. I had more energy, I was more focused at work and overall I felt good.  Now was it really the tea or was this just a placebo effect? So I did my very own experiment and stopped drinking the tea for a few weeks and I could tell around day 6 the sluggish feeling and lack of motivation was back.  So back to the tea I went!

I’m going to be brutally honest with you, the taste is very weird at first and very earthy. Knowing that adding sugar to a detox tea would pretty much defeat the purpose, I added a slice of lemon. Bingo!!! This tea with a slice of lemon is what I prefer to drink in the morning rather than my normal cup of coffee with cream and sugar. Even though its caffeine free, I still get this burst of energy when I drink it. If you haven’t stepped out of your comfort zone and tried something new lately, I would recommend this tea.

Bottoms up!!
